You can see tabs for iOS files in a more populated Mac.Moreover, a number of extra tabs can be seen on the left hand side of the screen for Documents, Applications, Mail, GarageBand, Trash, iCloud Drive and Photos. After that you will be taken to another screen where you will be given four options that includes: Optimize Storage, Reduce Clutter, Store in iCloud,Empty Trash Automatically. Irrespective of what version of macOS Sierra i.e 10.12, 10.13 or 10.14, you need to click on the Manage option.A second volume, which we called Test, is also given just over 15 GB. This results in the main storage for apps (red, 16.61 GB), photos (yellow, 5.17 GB) and iTunes (purple, 2.29 GB), e-mails (dark blue, 1 GB). Most of our images are in iCloud, most of our files and all of our laptop. Around the time we have over 92 GB of images and 738 MB of purgeable content on our 121 GB disk. For later releases of macOS that improved a bit, because so much content can be saved for iCloud today.

Doing this along with deleting your iPhone backups and ensuring you only have one - the most recent - will surely free up space in "other". I deleted all archived messages and it freed up over 50gigs. DELETE all of these and then empty from trash and you will see a lot of space free up in "other". Navigate to that folder and you will see all of your archived messages. If you click the magnifying glass in the top right corner and type in the contacts name, the archived message will show up in your finder.

I deleted the message in the Messages app and that DID NOT free up any space and then I realized that even when you delete a message from the Messages app on your mac it does not delete the Archive of that message. For example: I use the Messages app on my computer and I have a group chat with all of my friends and we share countless attachments every day. All of your texts as well as attachments files are saved to your computer. I also found another way to delete "other". When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. I don't recommend that you make a habit of this.

☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.įirst, back up all data if you haven't already done so. ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking it only sees files that you have permission to read. Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved. Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
